Sunnyvale Schools

The Sunnyvale School District is a high performing school district located in the northwestern section of Santa Clara County. About two thirds of the K-8 students who live in the City of Sunnyvale are within the boundaries of the Sunnyvale School District. The Sunnyvale School District operates two preschools, eight elementary schools (K-5), and two middle schools, (6-8). Several are California Distinguished Schools including Cherry Chase, Sunnyvale Middle, and Cumberland. Cherry Chase and Sunnyvale Middle are also National Blue Ribbon Schools. Although a portion of the Sunnyvale residents are served by the Sunnyvale Elementary School District, many Sunnyvale residents live within the Cupertino Elementary School District boundaries, and a few reside in the Santa Clara Unified School District.

Most high school students in Sunnyvale are served by the Fremont Union High School District, which serves students grades 9-12 from Sunnyvale, Cupertino, and parts of Los Altos, Saratoga, San Jose, and Santa Clara. Sunnyvale residents will attend either Homestead High School, Fremont High School, Monta Vista High School or Wilcox High School (if they reside within the Santa Clara Unified School District).

Monta Vista High School, attended by some Sunnyvale residents, is generally has been recognized as one of the best schools in the Fremont Union High School District and is consistently ranked as one of the top performing high schools in the state. It has also been named as one of the best high schools in the country by Us News & World Report, Newsweek, and The Washington Post.
